PTOLEMY XIV Ptolemy XIV was Cleopatra's youngest brother. He became co-regent of Egypt after the Alexandrian War. Cleopatra learned from her mistake with Ptolemy XIII and kept this regent out of the limelight. At this point in time Cleopatra, her son and Ptolemy XIV lived in Rome at the care of Caesar. Ptolemy XIV was poisoned when he was 15, some sources stating that it was because Cleopatra wanted her son to rule, others because of his entrance to manhood and aspirations of ruler-ship. We see Ptolemy XIV through his older sister's eyes as the young, soon-of-age figurehead whom she must tolerate in order to stay in power. |
